Both my 1984 & 1985 books say black, however my 1986 book says they are Charcoal like the rest of the trim.
I find this odd though, it seems that they wouldn't have made a color change on an item like that going into the last year of production.
I just brought my car home from storage today so I will have to look at it and see what color mine are and I will get those pictures taken of the hood pad for you too.

Problem is, I went looking through all the 85-86 coupes and its about half and half for chrome vs black lock cylinders.
As far as the interior PW bezels even Sandy has said that they are to be black but all sorts of mistakes got through.
I think that the outer locks may have had the same problem. All stemming from the fact that these cars being ordered as GSs but built to RS specs. The assembly line guys probably weren't sure what to do.
However, if the intention was for them to be black, I can either paint them or install a NOS black topped set I have.
I know it says black but the book I have was lat 1984 and maybe had carryover info.
