I can tell you this. I have 3 capris (one being an 85 mcLaren) and
all three are DIFFERENT. It wasn't a mclaren thing. It was a
mercury thing. I have two other 86 capri's straight original from
the factory and they are different. My friend also has an 86 capri
and that is different than my 2 86's. I have a chrome grill on one
of them. The RS's (5.0s) were all suppose to the charcoal. Even the
trim color on some of them were different. I am betting that since
Ford/Mercury knew that 86 was going to be the last year, they used
whatever parts they had (whatever grill, trim, etc.) just to finish
the year out. That is just my guess.
