Hello everyone,
I'm the proud new owner of a red '87. It's in fabulous condition,
and man does it get looks! Hardly a day goes by that someone
doesn't ask me about it at traffic lights or in parking lots.
Unfortunately, a previous owner added gold accent stripes to the
bottom of the car. They look pretty good, but to the purist, it's a
real shame.
I know virtually nothing about these cars, and I was hoping you
could answer a few questions. Pardon my ignorance.
1) Did the '87s come with the factory Ford premium sound system?
If so, does anyone know if any later model Mustangs with CD players
use the same wiring harness/amp? (I think my radio was stolen at
some point and replaced by an AM/FM cheapy w/o cassette.)
2) What type of windshield glass/side windows do the 87-90 McLarens
use? They're not the factory windshields, are they? I thought I
read somewhere the side windows WERE factory, and they just rigged
them not to go up all the way, but I'm still curious about the
windshield.
3) Did the '87s come with the ascMclaren leather steering wheel
insert (horn cover)? (Mine has a FoMoCo one, and I wasn't sure if it
was original or if a previous owner decided to hock the original
Mclaren one on ebay or something.)
4) Based on your experience, are the tonneau cover release
solenoid/top securing motor fairly reliable/durable? Do I really
want to know the answer?
5) In your experience, what's a good product for cleaning/protecting
the cloth tops?
6) Why does my car have a factory power top button? (Just curious)
