What's my car worth ?

Post by Sandy »

Some things in life, are extremely difficult to do. Some really tear at the heart. I know. I have been having thoughts of selling my coupe. Why? I turned 60 last December. It's a state of mind that overtakes you. Some ignore it. Others cannot. I am a cannot.

So, I have mentally thought about selling her. Am I ready, yet? No, it's a hard hard sell. Slowly reality of the aging process creeps into life.

So, what should I ask for her, when I make the decession. Honest opinons
.
Facts:

1986 Full Packaged ascMcLaren Coupe. Pwr. Locks & A/C and Automatic.
1 of 9 Automatics. Smoke Charcoal Metallic. Popsicle Orange decals, stripes & logos.
3.73:1 Axle Ratio

688 miles ! 100% Original, with exception of driver's side muffler.
Flawless, as new condition. Everything works as it should, from A/C to Pwr. Windows. Original Tires, as new condition. Dash Plaque # 109 of 115, the 5th from the last car. Original Whistler Radar Unit under Dash.
None newer or better in the world, for originality.
Again, EVERYTHING WORKS - Car is stored in heated garage 365 days @ year.

Spare Parts:
Front Ground Effect (air dam)
Grille Emblem
1 Set Side Ground Effects
Rear Spoiler
2 (TWO) complete striping kits
8 new perfect wheels, 8 center caps 16 chrome lug nuts
1 new Speedo 140 Top number
1 set head & taillight covers
1 set quarter window blackouts
2 sets (12 pieces) quarter window triangular vent plugs
1 set quarter window blackout FRAMES with rubber insulators
1 set OEM ascMcLaren floor mats
1 Rear under bumper finisher applique bumper cover.
1 Set OEM ascMcLaren Springs
1 set ascMcLaren Tie Rod Tips
1 New old stock factory sealed Alpine Am Fm Stereo/Cassette
THE CORRECT STEREO
1 Correct Leather Wrapped Steering Wheel & Leather center PAD
2 spare Transmission Lever Rubber fillers

All spare parts are in ascMcLaren boxs from Autry Avene in Livonia Michigan.

So...... What is she worth including the parts ?
Convience me to contimplate selling. It's getting more difficult to take care of 3 ascMcLarens, 1 very special Cadillac, a daily driver & the wife's Cherokee. 6 "Children" ~ is tough at 60.

I cannot sell the Cadillac. It's a 1993 Fleetwood Sixty Special with 9899 miles (or 660 @ year). It is in my will. My Mom ordered it and I put on every option, and I picked the Midnight Purple Color and it's a 1-off, via a letter from Cadillac. The interior was factory customized for me by Cadillac at the FTS (Fleetwood Trim Shoppe). My Mom died, the day before it came in. I took delivery of it, for her.
I do drive it to the Cemetery 5 times a year. In case you've never seen a brand new 15 year old car,
here are pics of her, taken last Summer (2006) She has 5 trophies, BYW ~ I do take her to a show - A Cadillac Show - Every year in early October.

I'd sell a vert first too only 'cause you have 2 of them plus coupes are better...lol.

There is a SSP 1993 Mustang Coupe on ebay now that's up to over 25k and it's got 8000 miles...I'd contact Barrett Jackson Sandy...you have the car to put our cars on the Map...lol. Even Peter said it in the other thread...someone has to get our cars on the map...:)

Not much help I guess but I AM interested in the floor mats and steering wheel please. :)

:)

EDIT: Sandy if you ever decide to sell let me know and I'll put together a nice Ebay auction template for you!

Got to agree with the others, sell the in between model year vert, keep the cope and lastest year of vert! Sell the spare parts and make a small fortune to recover storage costs. The way you take care of your vehicles, you do not need spare parts!

If, if, if you are really thinking of selling one off - go the vert route. Easy said, but parting with any of them would be difficult I am sure... :(

I agree, sell a vert.

Then go out to the coupe and with your Ford key, put a 2 inch gouge in the paint. That way you'll be more apt to drive the thing and not worried about an occasional scratch. Lord knows out of anyone, you deserve to enjoy the car. So sell the vert and for every time you drove that vert, drive the coupe instead.

If you sell the coupe, I would imagine you could get $25k for it or thereabouts. What is that going to buy you? It won't get you a new car and all it's going to do is drive you to an early grave because the car will be off to god knows where getting abused.

Very sound & good advice. I thank you all. The storage on the coupe, is the least. It's $75.00 @ month. The Caddy lives here (home) in the 2-car gargage. The Silver (Oh, dahberg, it's not an "in between year - it's also a 1990) well it's $225 @ month storage & the Blue (Final car made) 1990 is the killer. Professional storage, air conditioned in summer & heated in winter & dehumdified all year, under lock & key, underground with 24 hour guards is $335. @ month. $635 @ month is beginning to hurt me. It's alot. But, private home garages are nearly imnpossible to find. I found 2 (above) and that took a year.
I met a very smart man. He bought a big lot in a commercial area and on that lot he built rows & rows of BRICK garages, with NO windows and with particians between each one. I got THE LAST ONE of 17, SEVENTEEN !
(That is where th e Silver 90 Vert is at. He gets $225 @ month X 17 = $3,825.00 @ month income from it, or $46,000 A year !
They are very very nice. If another becomes available I'll take it for the Blue car.
He makes you sign a contract in which he states all the things you CANNOT do there, and takes a 1 month security. To move it it's $450.00. Then $225 @ month. There's a short waiting list.

Sandy,

That is one hell of a story about the Caddy. wow. She looks great, (but of course all in your stable do).

#1. I say sell the Silver vert. IMO, she's constantly running 3rd place among your ASCs. That'll leave you with a capri and a Mustang, both eras represented.

#2. A couple of ideas no matter which car you sell. Is there a showroom/museum that ASC/McLaren (or whoever owns them now) that they might want to display an example of their history??? That could be a buyer, -------would probably pay a nice sum for it, AND, being there you know it would be taken care of. (piece of mind for you). OR, whoever brought up the auction block, RM Auctions, Barret Jackson, etc. is a great idea. To get our cars on the map you have 3 cars that would look great going over the block, and be placed front and center of buyers that would pay what its worth or more! (please wait till I buy my 2nd ASC - LOL, I'd like to pick up another while prices are low)

#3. I almost feel guilty having numerous places I could keep my cars, and free. $635 per month - OMFG!..........no way in hell. I can't relate to people's situations that live in inner city situations with storage. Thats $7,620 per year! and how many years have you been storing these? at least 10 right? Thats $76,200................excuse me while I faint.......

#4. I hope Mike was kidding about deliberatly scratching the coupe to feel better about driving it. Come on.......

Nope. Pretty much serious about it.

I think Sandy is the only owner for that car but he needs to get over his psychological problem that he can't drive it because it is too perfect. One way to do that is to remove a bit of that perfection.

I disagree with the "scratch it and drive it" mindset. If a car has gone this long without being harmed, it should remain pristine in perpetuity. As for Sandy's other two cars, drive 'em.

Sandy, sell whatever you like, but just remember that seller's remorse is a painful thing. Most of us, including you, know what that's like. "Damn, I wish that I had never sold that (fill in the blank)."

You guys got me laughing!

Regarding the cost of the storage. The Blue 90 has only been in that $335.00 @ month place for 3 years ( $12,000) ~ The Silver one, in it's NEW garage at $ 225. @ month is on its first month ! It was in a decent garage at $125 @ month, but the houses' owner just sold the house and the new buyer kicked the 10 of us OUT ! (He had a 10 car garage way in back of his big property) This was the first one I could find that was decent +
and with wintrer upon us, I didn't have the luxury of looking around.

The Coupe is in a $75.00 @ month garage. If I could find really good storage for the Blue 90, i'd take it out of there. I feel it is the most valuable of the 3 as it has 2,037 miles - is 100% original & perfect and is the final ascMcLaren made, and the only Azura Blue made for model year 1990.

The Caddy lives here, in our garage, for free.
My Daily Driver, the 2003 Town Car shares the garage with the Caddy...
(YES, they get along well) and Karen's Cherokee Limited (2001) the small "XJ" Cherokee LTD) and Son Matt's new 2007 Mazda 3 G.T. Dark Purple share the driveway..
It's like a car lot here. Karen & I share the Jeep (Silver) when show is visable. Town Car (2003) ventures outside when there is no snow. (10,000 miles on it).
Mazda goes to work every day with Son. Mazda is the newest AND Highest Mileage car of the lot. He has 11,300 miles on her in 9 months.
The Cherokee is 2001 or 7 years old, with 44,698 miles on her. (6,400 @ yr.)

Sandy, can you link me to more pics of th 86? I love both your verts and would be proud to park any one of your 3 Mc's in my garage and drive them on sunny days only.

Frankly I think the idea of buying any one of them is tough due to the extremely nice condition. I'd like a charcaol vert with Grey interior in less than perfect condition as yours but would like to spend less than the $20-30K I suspect it would take to bring one of yours' home.
