I had to reply to you, Robert.

I have cousins that will have nothing to do with me, nor my immediate family, nor any other sects of extended family. I have met them ONCE in my life, just 4 years ago, at age 56.
Why?
They are past, waaay past, Mega wealthy. Not in the millions, but in the billions! My Mother, when alive, kept a family scrap book, for decades. The Woman of this well-to-do family wanted to view it, so....she invited me, my wife & our son to their Estate to visit for the day. We dined on cavier, and $1,000 @ bottle wines and were served by white-suit attired matre-d(s) while sitting around a pool, outside a power-appearing on rails kitchen cabina with violinists seranading us. Okay? Got the picture?
They are all retired, even the 40-year olds.
We will never see them again......we are peasants.

Why am I laying this out? I went to see their cars, in the 4 car garage.
Here ya go:-

1.) New Style VW Beetle Convertible - Lt. Beige Pastel
2.) Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo Old Style - Like a 2000. (cheapest model- Laredo) Bright Red
3.) The very first year Lexus LS (the top of the line) - Perhaps a 1998 ?
4.) 2003 Lincoln Town Car "L" Black; (The lengthened one, Chaeuffer driven for going into New York City to plays & theatre and and and

So the Sports star with the Magnum isn't alone. We don't "see" the wealthy who don't drive "flash" cars.

Now, if I had that kinda money....A Maserati Quatraporte / Jaguar XK-R Coupe / Jeep Grand Cherokee 4x4 Overland / Corvette Convertible ....
A sedan, A Coupe, A Convertible and a 4X4. Perfection :D

Sandy, you are certainly correct that there are rich folk who drive less-than-flashy vehicles. When I first moved to Dallas, Ross Perot could be seen tooling around town in his fifteen-year old Oldsmobile and going to Luby's for lunch. It cracked me up.

That said, the stereotype of the rich athlete is that he is going to drive something flashy, unless he is the rare down-to-Earth-loves-to-go-huntin'-and- fishin' exception. Judging from the tabloid-worthy exploits of Chipper Jones' past, I never envisioned him as one of the exceptions.

Yes, I have also known others, but I guess my "family" hits home the closest. They are nice people, and they have a rather large family (2 Sons & a Daughter and several grandchildren, and I have no immediate family, other than my wife & our 1 child (YIPES, the "child" is 23) when did THAT happen ? Anyhow, if you are curious whom these people are, just seek out MY last name..... and you'll know.
It's does me absolutely no good at all. But, we come from totally different backgrounds. I was a car salesman. They are benefactors along the Great White Way....( Broadway, N.Y.C.) I did have a good time that day, and got to see how old money lives.

I liked the cabana ! Push a button and the power awning came out, doors hydrailicly slid open relvealing a back yard patio 'Fridge, sub zero freezer, elec. range, wine cooler, microwave, and garbage compactor. The pool was nice and the lawn was lush. The "help" poured your glass full every few minutes and served all kinds of fancy custom made stuff.
I learned that I do not like Caviar, but I like the $1,000 a bottle wine from Israel and the $ 800 cognac from France.. They were GOOD.

My wife & I picked apples from the orchard as well as pears and our son played tennis on their courts, with their grandkids.

But....we never got invited back, again....... Oh well.... :shrug

25k to 35k if the car was completed come on when has anyone seen a restored coupe bring that kind of money how about even an ultra low mile all original car?

In a past life I sold cars and my used car manager told me that there is an ass for every seat. Not my ass I would wait till you fine a nicer car for the money.

My 03 Marauder, my 95 F-350, and my 87 Dodge D-50. And the wifes 05 Dodge Magnum RT we bought it from Atl Braves Player Chipper Jones so can't sell that one besides the wife might veto that LOL.
I am envious of your Marauder. When they became available, I was initially hot to buy one, but then I read some lukewarm reviews, and I didn't like the idea of owning a car with four doors, blah blah blah. Even when Mercury dealers were practically giving them away, I didn't pull the trigger. Well, now it's too late and I wish that I had one . . . and especially a silver one. Nicely done, sir.

The Chipper Jones Magnum is intriguing. While the Magnums are very nice cars (I almost bought one for my wife; ended up going with a Jeep Commander because I found a leftover 2006 model for $13k under sticker and couldn't resist), it is hard to envision a mega-rich ballplayer driving one. What's the story on yours?

Well the Magnum is somewhat flashy it has the 22 inch rims and 5% tint on the rear 5 windows 35% on driver and pass fronts and nicely installed rear dvd system otherwise all stock exactley the way we purchaced it. I sold Chipper two new Ford trucks first one was a 2003 F-250 4x4 crew cab Diesel Lariat and second was a 2007 F-150 4x4 crew cab flairside that i had to DT in "Sandy knows what that is" that was the one he traded the Magnum in on. Chipper has a ranch in TX i think his web site is chipperjones.com he seemed like just a regular guy when dealing with him and he's a hunter also so thats cool.

If you would like some insight as to how the real rich live, check out the books "The Millionaire Mind," or "the Millionaire Next Door" by Dr. Thomas J. Stanley. Many of the people he calls "Balance Sheet Affluent" buy used cars! It seems that the ones who usually have the flashiest, newest stuff are what he calls "Income Statement Affluent," and they seem to go broke very quickly if their income is reduced as they tend to have a very low net worth.
