I need stereo help...

Post by AlanG »

I couldn't stand it any longer, looking in the back of my 87 and seeing roadmaster speakers. so I put in high quality clarion in the doors and in the back. I have two questions, did the 87's have speakers in the back from asc? and how do I stop the original stereo from eating my cassettes? Thank god the previous owner didn't take it out and put in a roadmaster reciever to match his speakers.

The 85/86s had speakers in the back tub area behind the front seats. I thought 87-90 did to?

The original unit could be taken out and sent to a repair shop. There are places that work on the Ford radios.

The speakers in the tub are right where you said they should be. I wasn't sure if they were original because the holes were ragged and it looked like shoddy workmanship to me. What is it with these cars that make people feel as if they need to "pimp" them.

I don't know. Its not like you see them everyday on the street....even back when they were new you would never see another one!

you might want to try a cassette head cleaner first to see if the heads are dirty. that would cause tape destruction. i haven't purchased one in a while but i would think an electronics store such as radio shack would carry them. they look like a cassette tape and should come with some type of cleaning solution. worth a try eh?

I removed the stereo and took off the top cover and found a small rubber wheel in the tape mechanism that was stuck. A drop of lube and it works great. I ended up removing the entire center console, There are a couple of small cracks in the plastic so I figured now would be a good time to epoxy them. The "inspected by" stickers are still on the inside of the console. It's kinda neat seeing someones hidden initials that were written 20 years ago.
