I am having a shift kit put on my 86 vert (26K miles) this week. The kit is being installed by a very highly respected classic car transmission shop that has been around for 15 years. I used him for my wifes 68 chevelle and was very well pleased. He is flushing the entire system and also replacing a plastic bushing with a brass bushing that is prone to leaking.
I will update you on how it drives and provide the name/part number of the shift kit.
It is costing $210, all inclusive.

Shift Kit on my 86 Vert
How did this work out? What type was it and rpm stall? Do these aod tranny's have a tranny cooler from the factory? For the life of me I can not remember. Would it effect the resale value if one was to beef up their tranny with a rebuild? What improvements does one expect from doing this? I've always been byass toward 5spd manuals until my spinal cord injury. Tia.

To answer your question, it made a huge difference. Shifts are much faster, but I would not call it "hard" like some have said. When I get on it shifts occurr at about 4500 rpm, but only drop around 700-800 RPM. I am very happy with it. My teenage son loves driving it know (he has his own 92 GT). These cars have no stock cooler. I will get the kit manufacturer and part number early next week.
