the reason i ask is that in some state radar detectors are illegal.
could somebody get the option in a state that bans them?
seems the dealer could get into hot water in that situation.

No. It's available for those states where it's legal. It's up to the individual to inquire and find out if it is legal. If he/she finds out that it is NOT legal, then it's up to the ultimate user (the owner) TO OBEY THE LAW OF THE LAND.
The manufacturer cannot know every law in ever state at all times. Perhaps buyer #1 was in a state that was okay with detectors, but later sold the car to someone from a state where they were a no-no/ ? No, it's up to the ultimate user to obey the law.

i was refering to the cars when new. not re-sale.
example:
if radar detectors are illegal in Virginia, & someone ordered/bought an '85 coupe new from a dealership in Virginia, would the car come with a radar detector?

Okay, I took the 1 hour & 8 minutes this AM to go thru piles & piles of stuff from ascMcLaren.
We are both correct. Standard Equipment in 1984 & 1985 ! Optional at $ 353.00 for 1986. My coupe is an '86. I know that it was extra cost then. It was listed as such on my McLaren to selling dealer INVOICE.

So the dealer can get away with it while the user takes the hit? My theory is you go after the dealer and you wont have so many users. Oh what are we talking about anyways, lol jk.
