the detroit prix II pace car was a renault fuego.
white with black trim & red decals, actual detroit gp logo just like the capris.
seen 1 once. same color sceme like a 85 capri.
looked wierd.
seen different photo of the TA in a car book couple years ago.
wonder which car actually was the pace car in 84.
SVO or TA.
one probably was used in the other race on saturday & the other was used in the sunday Grand Prix.

Here is a picture of the 84 detroit grand prix with an svo in the back of the field with it lights on.ChuckG wrote:Think we'd have heard if the SVO paced. Can't ever recall that vehicle pace anything, which is a shame because it was quite a package.
If they'd only based it on the 2.8 V6.....

Wow! I was really into the SVOs and never saw that. Never even heard about it.
Funny, but the '85 Teamster strike is how I ended up with a McLaren Coupe and not an SVO. My SVO was built and ready, but stuck on a truck at Rouge, so I canceled and bought my first Coupe.
Bet Roush has some race photos of Capris. There or Motorcraft.

i spent an entire day going through the photo archive at Ford HQ a couple years back. the only photo i found had a few capris in the pits. the capri's were not the main focus of the shot. they were very small and barely visableRARE-ASC wrote:Ya i wish! Yep, it was an SVO for 1984
The SVO also paced a race at Watkins Glen (I think), one of the race courses in the north east. Kendal would know about that one too, if I have the wrong track. And there was a Mac Tools SVO race car and a Silver State SVO race car.
Bleed Ford Blue!

Ken Potter has one of the Watkins Glenn Pace cars, there was 2 silver 84's and 1 white 85.5 svo. There also was a charcoal 84 that was the pace car at Sears Point. Several svo's were raced in showroom stock like the mac tools car that Mark Haas ownes and the Silver State svo just sold to a guy in Ohio.
