Since after a month of "Vacation" from the hospital, for having my 2x@ month Cancer infusion, I am resuming today. Therefore.....I will be "Off-Board" 'til like 4:30 East Coast time, I figure I'd like to see something interesting and different when I finnaly get home. To that end.......

We spin the clock back...all the way back....to 1984. You have won $25,000 - but you have been told that this money MUST be spent on an ascMcLaren. You can buy a new 1984, or wait and buy an 85 86 87 88 89 or 90. But after 1990 you have to give the money back.

So.... any year, any style and any color is available to you.

Tell us what you'd order from you friendly Mercury or Ford Dealer!

I'll go first.... '(Cause I gotta leave by 9AM) ......

I'd wait for 1990 (cause it's the final year) and I'd order mine in "Coral Red" with the Cranberry (Dark Red) Convertible top and the Opal (Pastel Opal (very light grey) Interior, with every option. (Well all 3 of them.)
Coral Red, one was made. It's a metallic pink-ish red.

My 2nd choice would be a 1989 in Summer's Tan with the Dark Brown Roof & the Sand Beige Interior, only because not one was ever ordered/made.

If I could order custom paint like on the SC's, I'd get Medium Canyon Red/black/black w/black SC recaros and matching rear seat.

If it was really back then then I would do a 1985/86 TRoof Coupe in midnight blue and orange letters.

But if I could go back in time, knowing what I know now....

I'd finagle a custom color scheme and options. It probably would be a 1984 TRoof Coupe in yellow with black striping and black wheels.

I would order a new 1985 Motorsport Capri with grey int.
oh wait you couldnt "order" the pace cars.

so i would go with a 85 coupe w t roof. i would opt for the custom paint order(if it could be done on the coupes) in black with gold decals & gold rims.
sort of a Black Magic ASC.

Sorry to say, UInder D32, you could absolutely not order Cuxtom paint, even IF it was a Ford Color. If ya did, D32 would be kicked out, faster than a football.

I actually thought I'd see more UNUSUAL combos. The two that I picked had none made.

Black interior was ONLY offerred in 1990, I thought 4-sure, somebody would pick a triple black 'Vert ! and/or a Dino Yellow with black interior & top. Also a Sea Foam Aqua with double white (Interior/roof).

Ditto a Candy Red Pearl of 1989 with Sand Beige Interior & Tan Top.

Somebody, I was told by connections at asc McLaren bought a 88 McLaren and wanted to ship it to Saleen, for a full Saleen treatment underhood & underneath, leaving the McLaren part.....McLaren and upgrading the power dept. a la Saleen. I do believwe it WAS in fact DONE !!

I would want the 90 coral red one too. In 1990 my friend brought that coral red one to Detroit Dragway and ever since then I have been wanting a asc ever since. I finally got mine this year.

I saw the coral red car at milan dragway in 1990,i loved the color very different, but i would have orderd coral red white top @ white ,recaros,

just in case you dont know the coral red 1990 is a 5-speed, 1 0f 7 in 1990,

well since I cant have my black/gold coupe....heres what i would get.
1985 t roof coupe in blue.
order it without any decals. also delete all the ASC exterior add on parts(except the deck spoiler).

have the dealership throw on some 10 holes or black mesh instead of the orange.

$25k was a lot in 1984. It should have gotten them to repaint the car.

I don't exactly understand, what youa re saying. I was not referring to my Coupe, but MY choice, if I had that (which I did not) would been Coral Re / Cranberry Top & Opal Interior. I could NOT do that with MY 'Vert as she had the 1990-only Crystal Blue & Regatta Blue interior. Not good with Coral Red.

NO yo ucould not have it !!! Only 1986 Coupes from ascMcLaren could have it. 84 & 85 were D32 ONLY, precluding all else.

Hippy, The Recaros ended with the last 1988. No 89s nor 90s had them.
They were no longer even IN the building !!!
Car #688 1988 model was THE last car to get Recaros or 327 units prior to end car. I believe the dash plaque was 1167.
They had warrantee problems with them BIG TIME, with seat heaters shorting out, and a rotten horrible warrantee from Recaro AND ASC.

I believe the Coral Red car came with a black top & Opal Grey interior. I knew it was a stick.
It's in Henry Huisman's garage, now.

I have the one & only original ascMcLaren trim book with actual aluminum templates (ONLY FOR 1990) of large templates ( 12" x 8") of each 1990 exterior paint, samne size samples of each color leather and ditto of each roof material - big binder and pretty heavy.
When you place the Cranberry Fabric Roof Material next to the Coral Red Pearl and the Opal grey leather sample.....

You nearly die - it's THAT drop dead beautiful - nobody bought it.

The Coral Red is 65% Red and 35% Pink and the metallic in it seems to be slightly larger specs andmore of them.
That Cranberry roof is the color of a glass of red wine.
The Opal interior is the color of cigaerette smoke.
