I'm stopping by to look at this car on my way home from work. I talked to the guy today. It's been sitting outside, WITH THE TOP DOWN, under a cover for a good part of the last several years. I'm wondering if it even has a floor anymore

Sad, very sad.
Hopefully its savable. I love the blue.
Sandy, is this a "Spring Special"?
Paris Blue Metallic with Navy Top & Blue Int. = 12 * Spring Special
Atlantic Blue Metallic with Navy Top & Blue Int. = 00
with Tan Top & Tan Interior = 10
with Navy Top & Tan Interior = 01
YES, IF IF IF It's a 6 Cyl. The S.S(s) looked like that, but were six cyl / Automatics. They also came in Silver, with the Dk. Blue top and Blue interior.
Sandy passed away in 2012. He will be forever missed.

I just got back from looking at this car, and I'd like input on what you all would pay for it/think its worth in it's current state. This is a V8 auto car.
The good: The plaque on the pass side quarter shows S/N 86-0001, so it is the first vert out of ASC for 1986. The odometer shows 44K and I can believe it's correct (not rolled over to 144K). The floors are solid (I was surprised).
The so-so: There is some bubbling beneath the paint on both sides at the seam where the rear section was mated to the top of the quarters; there's some slight rust bubbling on the bottoms of both doors; there's also some minor surface rust on the bottom side of the hood and on the top of the core support (but no holes). The Recaro seats are dry and cracked but in better shape than most I've seen.
The bad: There is severe rust on the underside of where the rear quarters extend out over the taillights on either side of the truck lid. The motor hasn't been started in at least 5 years; the pull cords for the tonneau and truck are seized so with it's dead battery I don't know what condition the top is in or if the engine will turn over. It needs an air dam, 1 side skirt, and one each headlight and taillight cover.
I'm know the cost of the appearance package parts, a new top, etc; but I'm struggling to value the low miles/#1 '86 car against the quarter extension rust and unknown status of the driveline and top. My main reference is the $2K I paid for my 120K mile 85 driver.
Your thoughts guys?
Thanks, Keith

I'm OK with most of the work except the rust, and I love the cars (see my list).
I just don't want to pay a 'collector' premium for something that has no additional inherent value relative to any other verts out there. Drivable 'projects' are out there all the time for $1000 - $2000. I'm just looking for input on how the group thinks this one compares to those.
Thanks!

Sandy seller is only asking 3k....... Pluses are she Bears #1 last year for ASC Capri 1st year true Fuel Injection! Negs are it needs lots of love from what you said. I still feel from what you stated about it it is worth 1500-1700. On other hand It is almost always better to buy one ready to go you will save big time there! FYI!!!Buying sleds like that one is always a gamble some folks have the heart and some should buy new cars i say if you feel like it go for it!

The #1 number is very very cool. But from what we know on how asc numbered their cars, it may or may not be the first one made as they yanked the numbers from a bucket from what Sandy says.
Being number one though I think you'd have a good case for it. If I was building the cars I'd probbaly make sure the first few were numbered in order before not caring what car got what number.
Honestly, any resto takes a min $5k just to get things going. More like $10k when you add in all the little other pesky things like brakes, shocks and so forth beyond just paint, body work and asc parts.
Like was said though, I would figure it's a $2k car and you'd just have to put your time into it figuring the enjoyment is the reward as you'll never get your money out. But you should never be in the car hobby if you think you're making an investment anyway.

No, No No.... I said that pertaining to the 1988s (only). Yes, the 1988s were totally out of order. 1,015 was way more than they (ascMcLaren) were prepaired to do, and they hired college kids to do the "light work" - among which was putting on the dash plaques. Somebody (??) either a full-time ascMcLaren employee -OR- a student, decided to dump all of the dash plaques into a nearby wheelborrow, rather than try & pry each outta the tight box they arrived packed into.
1987, 1989 & 1990 are correct. I'd have to also assume that 84, 85 & 86 are also correct.

OK, I took the plunge. It's coming home Sat. morning. Other than Hank, what's the recod for most McLarens owned simultaneously?
I'll get some more pics up as soon as I can. I'm really hoping that a fresh battery will allow me to get the windows up and the tonneau open so I can get the top up.
