thanks very much!! I had a friend over from Australia 2 weeks ago, we took it for a long spin up back country roads in S Alabama, looking for parts for his T/A, was a ball, I still cannot get over how well that carb'd motor runs, I have said that since day one, when I drove it to FL from its former home in MI.

cheers

Yup, that is a sharp car. Now makes me WANT one!! Never realized how sharp they were/are.

My 1980 Carbe'd Corvette runs as good as anything I've ever owned.

No Fuel Injection, no computer. The last year that didn't happen. And I think, from having driven them both, the Vette is probaly quiker than the McLaren, after 20 MPH. Then the cubes and horses take over.

actually that one has been re-painted and re-stickered a few years back.
but in great shape none the less.
i would have to say the best preserved original gp4 (located) would have to be the prototype or car 615388.
Yea i agree since 615388 is mine  I do like those ASC wheels on the silver!

Didn't they start the computer-controlled cars with the '80? Maybe it was the '81. Think '80 was also the last purely St. Louis-built model, with '81 being either or and either enamel or lacquer depending on where it was built.

No. They started the body style, with the integrated air dam and spoiler, but the CCC didn't start till '81. In '81 they dropped the L82 230HP engine and went to the 190HP in all the Vettes. They didn't reach the 230HP again until 1986.

However the changes resulted in better fuel mileage, since my '80 L82 got 14.5 MPG before any mods, and gets about the same now but is a whole lot quicker. The '81's did a lot better fuel wise.

Nice thing is, the 1980 L82's are starting to command some decent prices.
