Question - 85 vert interior door handle - pics in

Post by 85CruisinVert »

I'm not sure if this is the norm or if possibly my doors' interior moldings are a bit warped?.. At any rate, when I pull the interior handle to open the door it rubs and seems to be starting to pull at the vinyl above the handle area. I was wondering if there was something I could do for this.

Sorry these aren't the best, they are from my phone, the only camera I had at hand. :(

That looks like the standard Mustang door handle. You cna get repros for like $12 or so.

I think you have to remove the whole door panel.

It's more than likely the door panel armrest add on from ASC. My 85 seems as if it's worse off than yours as it droops low enough on the pass. side that it blocks the door handle from opening the door at all.. I actually have to lift up on the underside of the armrest piece for the door handle to have enough clearance to open the door. My guess is that the cardboard on the door panel's backside weakens over time and allows it to hang low enough to interfere with the door handle.

The handle appears to be OK, but the asc arm rest panel seems to be too low, causing the handle to rub.

That pic just looks wrong to me. Looked like the handle was skewed. Dunno really, I don't own a vert.

I fixed one on an 86 i use to own i carefully trimmed out the area where the handle drags across and checked all door clips and screws and secured them replaced bad clips and that seemed to cure the issue!

Kate I would watch for some blue door panels to start. I noticed that as well when I had the car. I think the door panels have just seen better days and I would find some used blue ones and reattach them.

I missed out on a set recently on eBay too, they come up from time to time.
Those do have the "vert" door panels, but I can't see a standard door panel wouldn't work either.

I'm not sure a new standard dood panel would make a diffence since the 'vert panel' is actually a standard FoMoCo panel with the FoMoCo pull replaced by the asc formed armrest.

I agree with David, make sure all the door panel clips, all the attachment screws (for the arm rest as well as the handle), and any screws/bolts used to connect the arm rest to the door panel are all tight and secure.

No matter what, the complete door panel/arm rest assembly will probably need to be taken off the door to access all the hardware for tightening.
