Covertible Storage Bins

A question for anyone.........

I had my storage bins ("stowage bin" per the literature) out the other day while replacing the trunk release cable and found that the passenger side bin had a rubber drain tube from the bin down through the floor board. Anyone know the "official" story about this? Best guess at this point is that it was an ice chest, but that seems a bit odd since there is no insulation on the bin.

It's been bugging me since the weekend. I asked my father, who bought the car new, but he didn't know it was there.

I would guess drain tube if you get caught in the rain with the top down.

Or a place to pour your open drink as you are pulled over
