I never thought I'd own one like this....

Post by pooblah »

So I've been visiting junk yards here recently.... and to my amazement I see a 1985 ASC Mclaren Capri right in front of a series of Mustangs ranging across all years. Most ASC labeled parts had been stripped out including a few other parts like the rear end, radiator, engine accessories, and steering rack. Despite all this... I couldn't resist so I bought it from the junkyard. Its been rolled so most body panels are not any good.

Over the course of the next few months I'm gonna part it out. (Heads up)

Heres the VIN if its not already been registered as being scrapped.

(1MHBP79M2FF616194)

It would be kinda neat to know its history if anythings out there.

While the last 6 digits of the vin might be correct for an 85' vert, should not the first 3 begin with '1ME'? Seems like Sandy posted a notice with regard to the vin for coupes versus verts, but I was unable to find his post. I probably am confused... :?:

There were 2 vin prefixes. One for the normal Capri and one for a car slated to be a 3rd party constructed vehicle.

Well you might be giving congrats a little early. I'm gonna part her out unless theres something more rare about her.

Ah, thanks Mike. Found one of Sandy's posts with regard to 1ME versus 1MH;

Well, they are all rare. They only made so many each year.

But if it has been rolled over, it's probably not pretty.

I think in this case it would take WAY more money than its worth to fix her up.

Besides, shes been sitting in a junk yard for some time and a great deal of parts are already gone.

If there's a part you all are specifically looking for, just let me know.

Moved this to the classifieds.

I think she's too far gone to save too.

Can you post your state and city so that people can roughly gauge if shipping or picking up parts is feasible?
