Fuel pump relay location
Fuel pump relay location
Hello to all,
I am trying to locate the FP Relay in a 85 ASC Convertible. I did manage to find the ECC relay so far, but no FP relay, I'm assuming it has a Pink/Black hash marked wire but stranger things have happened.... A copy of a correct schematic would also be very helpful.
Thank you

I believe it's under the driver's seat.
Power in - Yellow (18 ga fuse link in engine compartment)
Power out - Pink/black hash (to fuel pump)
Relay activation power (from inertia switch) - Red/black hash
Relay ground (via ECM) - Tan/light green dots
Info from 1985 Mustang/Capri Electrical & Vacuum Troubleshooting Manual (aka EVTM) http://www.ebay.com/itm/FREE-SHIPPING-1 ... iW&vxp=mtr

Re: Fuel pump relay location
I have an 89 and mine is under the drivers seat. I've wired a fuel pump shutoff toggle switch to it (hidden to aid with anti-theft).oldguy wrote:Hello to all,

It's funny, I have seen a few people on the net say they found it under the driver's seat on an '85...one guy mentioned that if the carpet is replaced the installer will not often cut a spot for it to go through.
Another guy said his was in the trunk next to the latch.

I was wrong it's under the seat under the carpet.
I had a mental block about fixing this thing till I found the FP relay. The blk/grn wire at the ECC relay according to wiring schematic is chassis ground, however it is intermittent. Yes it also terminates at #40 & #50? (hard to id on schematic) at the ECM and both HEGO sensors. I'm okay with splicing into blk/grn near ECC relay and grounding it. Yes the car runs when I ground it. The FP relay will remain EXPOSED under the seat now. Unsure how to post pix so imagine a low mileage red convertible that has survived in a museum for most of it's existence with an example of some of the most frightening stereo installation techniques I've run across.
Thanks Again
