Anyone seen these fog light covers?

Post by 85GPIV »

Found these on E-bay. Anyone know what they came on? Would these be accurate for my GPIV?

I was told they came on Rangers.

I don't think they were special to GP4s in any way (don't really know though).

Honestly, I've talked with this guy very briefly two different time thru email and both times he confuses the hell out of me.

I can't say WHAT they are from (or for) other than they are NOT from any ascMcLaren, nor EuroCoupe, nor GPIV. There WAS a set of fog light covers initially for ascMcLarens (the Mercury COUPE version) and I believe that they came standard but ONLY on the 25 1984 Coupes. I have seen one set and heard of another set that I was supposed to buy for $100. but in the end the owner's Father had thrown away, as the owner had sold the car :( They were black and had the orange ascMcLaren logo slightly raised and in orange. I was told 25 sets were made up. Seems odd to be, because most manufacturers work in the 100s, as in 100, 200, 300 etc sets.......

Those are the Ford assessory covers. Functionally the same as the ones that came stock (early cars had white, later cars dark charcoal). Ford Motorsports also produced a set with their logo on it.

Scott,

Since the GPIV Motorsport Capri's had the factory Capri RS/5.0L front spoiler & Marchal Fog lamps, you would want to get the factory Ford/Mercury covers (and lights if you don't currently have them).

Here is a picture of them:

http://www.ascmclaren.org/phpBB/album_p ... pic_id=754

Here is a picture of the 1984 Fog light that Sandy was referring to, as you can see, they were essentially the factory Ford Marchal light and cover with an asc/McLaren logo decal/sticker/transfer put on the cover.

So, the 1984 used the factory stock fog lights? I didn't know that, as I thought the cars always employed the Hella Units. I see that these nice covers would not fit on the Hella lights. Wonder WHY the change ??

Did not the 1985 Capri SC Convert use the Hellas? I think so, as I never saw the fog COVERS onm a 'Vert, only coupes........

I think those covers from Hank's site are really from the 1983 ASC Sport Appearence Package which used Marchals:

I suppose maybe the 1984 cars might have used the Marchal lights. I often wondered if they would fit.

Mike,

I was going by the picture on the '84 Coupe brochure which appears to have the Sport Appearance Package & Marchal fog lamps installed. You are right, the picture on Hanks site of those are probably not an exact representation of what the '84 cars had.

It sure would be nice if someone would show up here with a "Sandy example" of an '84.

Do you know that in all the years I've spent with these cars, their owners, the internet, running ads, the Registry, etc, etc and enormous assistance from ascMcLaren, their employees & a handful of managers, that I have NEVER come across even ONE 1984 Coupe ! Converts, yes, several, but NO coupes, just a few photogragraphs thereof and "Spec sheets" and Equipment Listings, nobody ever found me, nor I.... them, with a 1984 ascMcLaren COUPE ! Seems Odd.

This is what I thought, but this guy seemed to think these were for a GPIV, so I had to ask the experts!

the expert says the gp4 cars received the standard fog light all rs/gs 5.0
recieved in 85.
the set with the ford oval came on the ford parts department fog light kit.
cost was about 120.00 back around 1990 when i bought my fog light kit.

there is also a set that had the ford oval & motorsport logo which came with the fog light kit sold through Ford Motorsport authorized dealers.

i am taking my Ford logo covers & having a "Lincoln/Mercury"
decal aplied to them below the oval for my GP4.

you can actually have anything design you want on them.
i have a place that does it good & does it cheap.
a friend had the RS logo put on a set last year & they look cool.

hey, Pete, take car yourself, Mono is NOT the common cold! Geeez how'd you go & get THAT?

I assume that's your Navy Coupe in the driveway? Yes? I saw the carwith the fog light covers. Yup dats dem all right! They would not fit any ascMcLaren from 1985 or 1986. They are made for the Marchall brand foggies. Would not fit the Hellas. :( I think, but am not 100% positive that the 25 - 1984 Coupes wore the Marshells (Sp is wrong, I know). Too bad, they'd be a nice touch. I have the correct Hella covers on mine. They are white plastic with Hella in raised black & white.
