1st Annual National ASC McLaren Rally/Car Show......

Post by shelbyscarab »

It might have been brought up previously long before I joined this site, but how would this go over? 1st Annual National ASC McLaren Rally/Car Show......
Any Interest? I'd help with the organization/setup of this. Alot of other car clubs, too many to count, have similiar meets. Corvettes, MGs, etc. Our cars are rare, very striking in looks, and are found all over the country.

One of the biggest issues, if not THE biggest would be location? Where? Initially, I would say take into consideration where the known cars are at and pick a centralized location.

I don't know about everyone else, but I'd rather go to a larger car show/venue versus the typical "show up at the Wendy's on Main st. every thursday night during the summer for a townie "car show" that has 8 cars show up and your displaying next to a pimped out '82 monte carlo."

I think this could be great show.

Let me know what everyone thinks of this.

I would certainly be up for attending. But my concern would be that eight people might be a pretty good turn out, considering the low production numbers of our cars. Perhaps there's a Ford/Mustang/Capri show we could commit to and make a really good showing there. It would help raise the visibility and awareness of our cars amongst a core audience of die-hard Ford/Mercury fans.

We talked about getting our own lot on Woodward next year. So we could see the cruise! but we got lots of people seeing the cars on Mustang Alley. I know we talked about it earlier (before Woodward) but it kinda fell thru. That's why I emailed the Mustang Alley people about Capri's and Jason got the other GP's to join. All in all a great turn out for kinda short notice and weather. 4Gp's and 3 Vert's and FB "86" For next year was thinking of Using the Motown Muscle lot I heard they still had space the day before.
Also Jason and I where asked kinda to sent something up for Woodward next year anyway.

woodward dream cruise is the biggest 1 day car event in the world.
that would be the place. if your from out of state, maybe think about trailering your ride to mich. 1 of our gp4 owners did just that this year, as well as years prior. he trailed the car to a local hotel, dropped the car & started to cruise!
as far as a spot on woodward, start looking now & be prepared to pay a high fee. but i am in. this years cruise was way too much fun.
i was happy in the alley, and would have no problem parking there again in 2007 if nothing else materialises.

The woodward dream cruise is an incredible event, after having gone to my first one this year, I wouldn't change much about it. But I'm not talking about having our own lot somewhere on woodward next year. I'm talking about a separate event somewhere else in a beautiful setting. A clean grassy park maybe. Plus the location could change every year if desired.

The show would be for ASC Mustangs, Capris, & GP IVs only. Sorry, no grand prixs.

There are what approximately 2,700 or so total cars in this group? yes, its true many ASC aren't around any more, many have died..... but there are alot out there yet. Somehow, to contact as many car owners as possible to let them know that a group exists for ASC McLarens. Yes, there are people out there that are not interested in going to car shows every weekend, (hell I'm one, it would cut into boating too much) But I would definitely go to the "Annual McLaren Show" once a year.....I believe that people that own McLarens have to be "Car guys/girls" You don't just own a McLaren just because you need a go to work car. So I think many would be interested.

If people made the effort to register their car with Sandy, I think thats enough interest right there. How many cars do you have registered Sandy? I've never heard. OH, and by the way, "trailer your car in the dream cruise"? COME ON! So you don't drive them at ALL? The low miles (56K) I've put on mine, I wouldn't trade for anything. Lots of good times.

Ahhh, but you don't live in New Jersey! You could not believe what I see on the road. Woman are the biggest offenders causing rear-enders !
Telephone clipped to their ear, driving & yakking away, or telephone on clip on dash awaiting a call with headphones ON head!! Sipping coffee & eating at every red light, applying make up at every red light. Racing like all hell to get up to the red light, to get maybe 20 seconds longer at the red light to do this stuff. Tailgating at 35 MPH, and holding steering wheel with one hand and ~HOT~ coffee with the other.
No thanks. Not taking them anywhere I don't have to. Their $50,000 imports are all leased, & go back in 30 months for a new one. They treat them like crap, do absolutely zero servicing. We used to get them back at 30 months, with 50,000 miles on them. Tech puts them up in the air and they are wearing the factory installed oil filter !! Wash?
Ya, right. God Washes them when it rains. Interiors are covered with sticky stains, and damn near need to be power washed. Dog dirt, kid dirt, spills, splashs, rips & tears, etc, etc, and off they go in the new one, which will be junk trash in another 30 months.
Since
they have no $$$ investment long term in their BMW or similiar, and don't give a crap, they think even less of your car. Their 6 year old flings open the door a bangs in into your car.....OOoooh So sorry......

Nope. Notice that you NEVER see those types at any car show.
"Why would people ever wanna go stare at cars" they'd say!
"How stupid" ~
"They're just cars" ......

I hear ya about the idiots on the road, but thats why I'm careful where I drive it and park it. I would venture to say that Jersey sounds a little worse than Ohio as far as % of idiots on the road........at least the way you describe it. I'm actually thinking about putting an alarm on it, its one more barrier plus I can't believe Ford didn't put keyless entry on the '88s........wasn't that out yet??????!!!!!!! I'm tired of unlocking the car with the key, how ancient is that........Well, you can trailer your cars to the National show, although you'd need a large trailer.........

Anyway, you only addressed the last line in my last post, how about the # registered? You have a total?

26 pages with 9 to 10 per page, so around about 250.

Funny you should mention this. There is a local informal car show here every Sunday were the OBI (Oak Beach Inn) was in western Suffolk NY. This guy had drove up in his Enzo Ferrari! The car was so beautiful. He imediately drew a crowd and was more then happy to show off the car to everyone. Afterwards he went walking around the parking lot of over 200 or more cars leaving his alone fully trusting others. He came upto my friends Roush and starting talking. I made a comment to my friend about keeping the mileage low on his car and the Ferrari owner was like the best thing is to enjoy the cars and mileage shouldnt matter. Well if I had his money sure lol jk, if I were to agree I would say condition matters more and yes we all should enjoy our cars whether it is looking at them, maintaining, or driving them.

How about the Carlisle Pa. car shows as a potential venue for us to piggyback onto?

They already have a very well established series of events.

Their attendence is in the hundreds of thousands each summer.

They have an all Ford event in the middle of the summer.

They are centraly locted in the eastern US. (That is why there are so many trucking companies that opperate out of Carlisle.)

They have a car corral at all of thier events. At the very least we could probably work something out with the Carlisle administrators to have our own little area in the car corral

In the future there may be the chance to have the show hosted inside of one of their many pavilions

There would be plenty for us to do if we did not want to standby and guard our cars all day.

Just throwing this out to see what ya'll think (ya'll is a word..... isn't it Sandy?)

Thanks for all the comments about a national show. It seems we all get off on tangents very easy. I'm guilty too.

I'd like to hear more about what people think of the idea and their thoughts on where to have it.

Sandy, you have roughly 250 cars registered. :( That about 9% of ASC Capris and Mustangs produced. Yea, I guess 250 sounds like alot, but when you figure the percentage out, its hard to believe how many more cars are out there. (For instance, I was browsing through some old thread posts last night and found some information you had given someone about the Paris Blue cars, it was interesting to hear about where they were and what condition they were in. You seemed to know alot about those cars)

Anyway, these are the people, the ones who registered who are more likely to go to a National show.
