85/86 Mclaren Capri convertible from air dam question

Post by red390gt »

I saw this listing on Ebay and was wondering if it has the wrong front spoiler or is it correct for that year?

That has been added by a prevous owner. Along with those weird fog lights.

Well, the whole front nose of that car looks like it may have been replaced.

The grill is wrong and the air dam is wrong too. The bumper cover is correct though.

Are the turn signal lights missing? Usually you can see them in the openings.

How about the hood scoop, is it correct for that year? Is the grill and head light trim supposed to be the same color as the car?

No, the scoop was added. Capris had those from 80-82.

The grill and headlight bezels I believe are painted body color like the side rub mouldings for the convertibles.

The blue asc above has the correct asc front air dam. The red car does not. Not sure if that is a Ford air dam or a xenon one.

The scoop is called the Capri hood "Bulge". It came on 80-82 Capris. They are cool in that they ONLY fit Capris. I have one on another hood and I may juts pop it on my car one day.

:screwy: lol, jk

While the red asc looks nice its had alot of stuff done to it to put it back to original. I also think its been hit in the front. I wouldn't say that if just the air dam was replaced, I actually prefer the RS air dam, plus the asc one is pretty expensive, but the grill is changed to. May not have been hit but it does make me leary

Don't forget, they were built under D32 Code

"D32ascMcLaren" ~ so yes, they were base cars BUT
with the upgrades to
RS spec., that ascMcLaren wanted !! So, for all intensive purposes,
they were RS spec code, but with a "Sports Delete Group" instituted FOR ascMcLaren BY Ford, which deleted the Fog lites & lower
bodyside 2-tone "accent" paint.... and added the RS seats, but
with grey piping, rather than red !!!

I am wrong on that. Those should be left the charcoal grey that Ford painted them from the factory.

When asc painted the car again, they did paint the rub strips though.

Wow that car looks nice but boy is it wrong :)

Lets see

The grille and hood appear to be from an 81 and have been painted
The tail lights are also painted
The tail is not stock
The dashboard has been mostly replaced. (should have the woodgrain)
Radio
Steering Wheel
Engine
Shifter
Lighter

Now it did get bid up a lot higher than a nice stock example would so maybe we should all chop em up
