National Convention

Post by 87ASCMcSteve »

Being fairly new to the forum and a new owner of an '87 McLaren (last 2 months), I haven't been through all the old forums to see if there has ever been mention of a national ASC McLaren Meet(Convention) someplace in the US. Has there ever been one?

No. There have been small "meets" as such. I once had 4 owners at my house with their 4 cars. With my 3, we had 7 in 1 place atr one time.
It's kinda hard as we all are spread out all over the USA and a handfull in Canada. With some 2,650 or so made and perhaps 20% in car heaven, there may be 2,000 left. Some went overseas, and there are some in New Zealand, Israel, and I have located 3 in the Swiss Alps region, as well as Holland, and Paris France, where I located 4. I've also found 2 or 3 (can't recall) in Italy. So, perhaps that 2,000 might be as low as 1700, spread out over 48 continential states, there might be 35 per state.
Kinda hard to pull off. Not like Corvettes or regular Mustangs or Firebird Trans Am...
Anyone is free to organize a meet at their house or wherever they wish. If it's in Northern New Jersey - I will be there, but I gotta keep the mileage low, 'ya know. :D
I see you are in Fla. There are ALOT of ascMcLaren convertibles down there. Especially in the Tampa area.

LOL, How ironic, I seem to recall someone else on this site mentioning the same great idea.........oh yea, it was me.

First off, WELCOME! Don't forget to post some pictures in your album and also register your car in the database on this site. Check it out if you haven't seen it yet. It was just started about 3-4 months ago. Trying to keep tabs on ASC's we know about.

I've been a member of this site only since last summer after stumbling on this site, (can't believe I didn't know it existed). I've mentioned a few times about having an ASC Capri & Mustang National rally or meet, but didn't seem to get much of a following for it, there were a few but.....I'd be willing to help with it though.

I have always thought about going to this, but I don't like huge crowds. It's kind of freaky, because I have no problem getting up and speaking to a group, but I can't stand crowds. I think I might just be wierd though, so I guess that would explain it.

the woodward dream cruise pre-planning is already under way. we currently have some leads on reserving a lot for the asc meet.
if those fall through or we are unable to secure a lot, then we will probably opt for the mustang alley again this year.
right now i am working with a promotional director of a local FM radio station on getting a good spot with some promotion. his station is the sister station of WOMC, which is the official sponser of the dream cruise.
i will be meeting with him this evening to discuse the matter more in-depth.
news will be posted as it becomes available.

National Convention

Post by 87ASCMcSteve »

Thanks to all who replied to my question about a national convention/meet. I am especially interested in the Woodward Dream Criuise possibility as we will be at the cruise this year. We moved to Florida from Farmington Hills in the Detroit area 3 years ago and attended many of the previous Dream Cruises in our '65 T-Bird Samoan Coral convertible before moving to Florida. Missing the wonderful Dream Cruise since we've been here, we decided to go this year....but obviously without our "new" '87 McLaren. Keep us/me informed where you'll be as my wife and I will definitely look you guys up.

Our '87 is white with a red interior and the exterior is in near perfect condition. Just finished putting new carpeting in (1 hour ago) and am getting new perforated leather inserts installed in both seats soon. Car only has 38,000 miles on it and has been a Florida car all its life, as far as I know. I bought it in Ft. Lauderdale a few weeks ago for $10,500.

Have made contact with a fellow McLaren member in Australia telling him that we'll be in Australia in October and have heard back from him that he'll be visiting here in the Sarasota, Florida area in June. Hope to hook up with him and then see him and his car while in Australia.

Just got interested in these cars a few months ago, but have always known about their existence, what being a Sales Engineer for an automotive parts supplier in the Detroit area for over 20 years before I retired 3 years ago. Even was at the ASC facility in Brighton, Michigan where they converted Mustangs into convertibles before Ford started making them again in the late 80's. Have been into T-Birds for years...now have an '02 turquoise 'Bird that I drive daily.

Look forward to meeting some of you guys/girls in the future.

Love that Samoan Coral paint on those Tee Biods! :D Wish they still made those kinda colors available, even if X-tra cost !

Did you ever get over to the Autry Ave plant in Livona, where our cars were converted ??

and of course, welcome to our site !! :hello:

Speaking of Woodward
Got this the other day

Dear Mustang Alley Attendees-

Many of you have been emailing us asking about registration for the 2007 Mustang Alley on Dream Cruise Weekend (August 18, 2007)… I just thought I'd send you all a quick email to let you know what is up…

We expect to get the event website updated for this year's event over the next few weeks… After that we will 'turn on' the registration system for this year's event. (If you are getting this email, it is because you registered for the event last year)… You will need to re-register if you want to attend this year so we know to hold a spot for you.

This event keeps getting larger… Last year we registered 600 Mustangs, and had 435 Mustangs attend (in the rain). Since it will be sunny and warm this year, we are looking into finding more space for the event, possibly extending farther down 9mile… The website will be updated with all the new details of the event and we look forward to seeing you all again…

Event website is the same as last year: www.motorcityterminators.org/mustangalley/

Thanks for you patience and enthusiasm for Mustang…

Actually, I meant that I was hijacking the thread when asking about what still needed to be done on the car.
