Headrest Removal from '87 Seatbacks

Post by 87ASCMcSteve »

Has anyone had the same difficulty that I am having getting the headrests up and off the seatbacks? I am into the process of having my perforated leather seat bottoms re-done and getting quotes to re-dye the leather. I cannot move the heaadrests up more than about a half an inch. Leather dyer would like to remove them or at least move the up a few inches to aid in the re-dye process.

1. They are Thunderbird headrests.
2. They are made stationery. No, they do not move.
3. In order to move them, the seat or seats, need to be removed from the car. Now, I have never done this. That is what I was told !

There is a good write up over at Four-Eyed Pride. The same basic procedure has worked on most Ford seats from the 80's and 90's and even my 2001 Mustang

There are pics that show a seat with the cover torn away so you can see what you are looking for with your hands...
