Joy Ride!

Post by ckj »

Took the 86 coupe out for a 45 mile drive today with the wife and it was a blast! I put some new tires on it last month and it's a night and day difference. The old tires were gatorbacks from 1988 and were toast. They felt like scuffed plastic on the tread.

Now I just need to get the tranny rebuilt so that I can actually use 2nd gear... Was fun and got a lot of looks on the freeway.

Very nice. It is always fun to get the car out of the garage and drive it after it has been sitting for a while.

I did the same thing a couple of weeks ago and enjoyed it thoroughly. As expected, a few people gave it the "what the hell is that thing" look as I went zipping by them. You can't beat it.

The few times I've taken my coupe out (remember 866 miles in 22 years) I too get the "What the hell is THAT thing" look and sometimes even chased. I find it to be a P.I.T.A. 99-percent of the time!!
'Ya don't get it anywhere nearly as much with the converts.

It's the stripes & rims, ESPECIALLY with the Popsicle Orange variety.
A person I knew way back when (1986) who had a black coupe with the silver stripes/decals & rims got asked about his car once in a while. I with the Smoke Grey & Popsicle Orange rims & stripes/decals actually once got stopped & asked about it 3 times in 2 miles ! Yes, it get to be pain.

Okay, a "fun-pain" but still a pain.... :poke

Hey, nice mustang. That is what I also hear most of the time.
Then there is, what is it? or who makes it?

Almost every gas station or store I stop at somebody asks about. I do find it to be a pain after driving it for the day.

Big car show this weekend, normally about 1000 plus cars. Mine is the only one ever there like it though. At least at the shows I can walk around and not be bothered to much.

Don't get me wrong, I love car. It would be nice just to go out and not always have to explain what it is.

I love driving the car and having people point and stare. It's nice when kids have that look of surprise and say that they want a car just like that when they get older. I think I am going to get one of those windshield decals to help explain what the car is so people dont have to ask as much.
