Of course I looked~ then...sckness followed.
If I live to be 100, I will never understand the "fun" of this.

I prefer Concours 'D Elegance & winning points on condition and
correctness & originality. I could set my McLaren on fire, and get MORE smoke than any of those guys got.

then again..... I am 63..... and old farts would look silly doing this.

Maybe somebody will start "Old Farts Burn-Out Competitin !
O.F.B.O Nationals !!!!!!!!!

My guess is he blew out a tire or two, just like the diesel truck did after him.

Come on Bill,

Why do some people think soccer is cool? I mean, Jezze-Lou! This is their playoffs, road to the SuperBowl, whatever. How can you have a 1-1 or Nil-Nil tie!?!?

Oh, different strokes for different folks.
I wish blue jeans, old cars, and boots would go out of style.

Sandy, sorry your eyes had to see that, but if it's any consolation, that particular McLaren was a beater at best... though with a well-built drivetrain.

I attended the Ford Nationals at Carlisle last weekend, although we left the area to see more cars up on the big hill just before the burnout 'competition'. Snapped about 600 photos total of the event. Only saw a total of three ASC-McLarens in total. One Capri-based car, and two Mustangs... all 'verts, not a coupe to be found unless I happened to miss it.

Trying to see the entire fairgrounds in just one afternoon is a lot of work! I'd say it was a good 5 or 6 mile walk up and down the rows... in muggy, 90-degree weather... with the skies threatening to dump the whole time. The place is so ridiculously huge, it's impossible to 'see it all' basically, so you have to pick 'n choose. It's a blast though and I highly recommend the experience to anyone.

I've stayed for the smoky festivities during other numerous ventures there, and in order to get a decent ovation from the crowd in the stands, they're basically expecting you to destroy your car/truck/motorcycle/bicycle/whatever-you-drove-in. Whether its the cooling system that grenades first... or the tires... with all the shrapnel from the loose radial steel belts annihilating the whole rear of the car (been there - seen that)... if you're entering that bleach-box you better be there to put on a show.

C'mon... burnouts have been around since the first driver in his Model-T figured out that 20HP, a wet road, and a tire the width of a small pebble could be an amusing combination! Still though, in this case... better them than me. I don't condone wrecking ones vehicle for the entertainment of others, but frying the rear skins in general as a juvenile display of horsepower is as American to many of us as apple pie. 8)

Haven't really 'squealed' the tires since I've had to buy my own.

Anyone wanting to participate in this "sport", should visit a used tire shop prior to the starting gun going off.

Whenever I need a cheap replacement tire and I don't care if the tire matches or not, I pay $25.00.

Two tires.....$50.00

Satisfaction of ability to shred those tires.....Priceless

A friend in high school put wiper fluid dispensers on his rear tires and sprayed bleach out of them so he could smoke at every light. He went through a set of two every time he went out for a sack of ten. (everyone out there has White Castle, right?)

When I got my first Mustang, my dad gave me some good advice.

"Satisfaction doesn't always come from beating the other guy, but knowing that you can!"

No White Castles anywhere near us. No Krystal anymore either, they closed a year ago. Now we make our own 'sliders'.

No Church's Fried Chicken either. Damn that was good chicken. We used to get it when we had our weekend home outside Bell, Fl, by the Suwannee River. It was a 24 mile ride, but worth it compared to KFC.
