the 1984 thru first 1/3rd of 1988 models did not
have this piece. The 2nd 2/3rds of 1988 and all 1989 &
1990 production did have it. Was it added by owners to
the 1984-early 1988s? Easy to do. We are talking of a
body-colored plastic trim moulding that IS PART OF the little
point (&lt;) at the leading edge of the tonneau cover,
just above the door handles (exterior). On 1984 thru
the first 1/3rd of the 1988s, this ended with the
point (&lt;) After that, the point (&lt;) narrowed a
bit and that moulding proceeded on forward towards
the side view mirror, going under it and sweeping up
a bit and joining the "A" pillar. There were 3
running changes during the 1988 build that confuses
hundreds of people. This, is one of them. The 2nd is the
change in the console. They altered the center console
during the '88 build. Early cars had the 1987 console
with the cigar lighter protruding from the console.
Later the design was altered, and the cigar lighter was
built into the ashtray and hidden. Other things ere
different too pertaining to the console, but this is the
easiest to describe herein!! The 3rd change was to the
side view mirrors. Early cars had dual remote control
mirrors, later cars had power motorized mirrors (dual).
You can visually tell what a car has by looking at
them from the exterior! A mirror that is attached TO
the "A" pillar is manual remote, a mirror attached to
the exterior door panel (with a little upside down
"L" is a power mirror. Power mirrors added $60.00 to
the price of the car, and were a MANDATORY option
beginning about 1/3rd of the way thru 1988 production,
around car # 400. There were no running changes on
1987s, 1989s or 1990s.
