Guys, this system has NO alarm! The remotes BOTH look alike, have a
front decal of blue with the ascmclaren logo dispalyed. The other
one you have is a replacement. Here is how/what the system is/does:-
There are just two places to push, one marked "U" and the other
marked "L". When pressing the "U" (for UNlock) the two doors will
both unlock, and all of the interior courtesy lamps will illuminate.
If you press the "U" again, the trunk will pop open. You have like 2
seconds to second press the "U" if you want the trunk to open, so i's
like click-click. You cannot open the trunk, without first opening
the doors.
When you push the "L" it will lock both doors, and shut off the
interior courtesy lamps. It's made by "Code-Alarm" of Madison
Heights, Michigan, and the folks there today cannot shed any light on
the who, what or why of anything. They don't even know what an
asc/McLaren IS !! The correct name of the option was Remote Control
Keyless Entry with Illuminated Entry System. Neither of these
features was ever avalable on any 1979 thru 1993 Mustang/Capri. I'd
assume the current Mustang has it, but I do not know when it became
an option on Mustangs. Regardless, I am sure it's a different system
than what was offered on the 1989 & 1990 asc/McLarens...
This system was installed BY asc/Mclaren during the alteration of our
cars into what they became. Offerred in only 1989 & 1990 it had
about a 24-27% installation rate, and cost $238.00 List, and $202.00
Invoice priced. When I take the 1990 in for yearly service this
month & state inspection, I'll point it out to my dealer, where I
take it. It's a Lincoln~Mercury dealer that has known me for 25
years and has the best service in America, bar none! Since every car
they sell (almost) has these, maybe they'll have a clue. I just
don't want them ripping apart my dash panel on a witch hunt!!
