Here are some questions that I have regarding the 88 model McLarens. I believe that you will see the sorry state my McLaren was put in by its previous owners by the very nature of these questions :
On the question of tops and their covers : My vehicle is a manual rag top and a manual cover. Is this normal ? I keep seeing people referencing electrical top motors and electrical cover motors. Is my version normal and the powered cover and rag top the exception or option ? Or did my cars previous owners strip off the power parts to make it in to a manual operation for both parts ?
On the question of 'pull cords' : My vehicle has sitting in its back seat area four 'pull cords'. These pull cords look somewhat similar to bicycle brake lines. In that you pull the wire inside the protective covering and it pulls on a respective mechanism at the other end : a) one pull cord opens the trunk b) one pull cord disconnects the rag top frame from the top cover c) one pull cord opens the top cover d) one pull cord opens the gas tank cover
What is the story with all these loose 'pull cords' ? Please explain to me how McLaren's are suppose to open the trunk, disconnect the rag top frame from the top cover, open the top cover and open the gas tank cover.
For example : I am sitting in the drivers seat, where would I normally find the mechanism to pull or push that would cause A to open, B to open, C to open, and D to open. Is it a button engaging an electrical device or is it a mechanical cable type linkage.
At the moment I have four cables loose in back compartment ( not really a back seat area ). I know McLaren would not have done such a lame ass way of providing mechanisms to operate those functions... so please give me a hint on where each of them 'should be' and what they should consist of partswise. I don't need specific part numbers - I just need a generic description of the components the 'should' be there and where they would be mounted.
This is the biggest benefit of Sandy's excellent knowledge and the mint McLarens. As I said previously, those of us rebuilding 'slaughtered pigs' need these mint cars as our templates in order to correct and return these poor basket cases back to how they were originally designed.
