Howdy,

Mine is an '85, so it is on the Capri Fox body. There is an electrical
release on the trunk, but there is also a manual release for when the
battery is dead or there is a problem. Otherwise no trunk. The trunk lid
release switch was in the glove box, as is the gas cap cover release. There
is also a manual gas cap cover release for the same reason as above.

There is a button on the interior body panel behind the driver's shoulder.
There are two arrows, one up and one down. The Up arrow will pop the
release on the toneau cover and allow the front clips for the top to be
released from the windshield top. Of course the trunk lid MUST be down or
there is an interference problem. There is an interlock to prevent either
one from being operated electrically if the other one is open.

After the top is released in the front , it is possible to lift the rear
retainer pin out of the receptacle in the toneau, and fold the rear of the
top forward to clear the toneau. At that time the toneau is lifted, and the
top folded down.

Then the toneau can be pushed down into the first notch of the pull-down
motor. After the toneau is clicked in, the first switch sees it, and pulls
it down a little bit. Then one must hit the Down side of the button to
fully seat the toneau. All final actions of the toneau are powered by the
motor.

The reverse is also true. One must hit the Up direction to release the
toneau. Then it can be opened, and the rear folded forward and the toneau
closed. Once again, the motor switch will see the first click and move down
a bit.. The top is secured at the front, and then the Down direction is
pushed. At that time, the motor will pull the toneau down thereby
tensioning the top. However, the top retainer pin must be in the
nickel-plated receptacle for the top pin to be captured and prevent the top
from popping up in the rear after one is underway. I have had it happen.

All the wiring for the top mechanism is in the attached drawings. If you
have any problem, I can print than and fax them out with an explanation.
