It may have been the "same" but does it have the same part number?
It appears that 84 carb part numbers started with E4 and 85 carb
part numbers started with an E5.
The carb that is on its way, supposedly has a part number stamped on
it of:
E5TEZB C7A 5
This would not have been on an '84 carb. And if I could decode it
it probably says it is for a Ford application and not a Mercury one.
