I actually can tell you EXACTLY how many hours in the sun my 1986
gets, per year. I take it to one (very) local show, per year. That
show is 20 minutes from my house. I arrive at 9:00AM and I leave at
4:00PM arriving home about 4:20. So, from 8:30AM until 4:30PM is 8
hours. The show is on the 3rd Sunday in May, so it's not really
~Sizzling HOT~ out yet, compred to say, June, July or August. Then
in every October (also not HOT out) I drive it to the Ford Dealer for
its annual servicing. Allthough a diffferent direction, it's also a
20 minute drive each way. (8 miles). Once there (I go at 7:00 AM
and with my pre-made appointment) I usually go right in the shop,
with no more than a 10 minutes wait. Inside the shop, there is no
sun. Again, the 20 minute ride home. My driveway is totally in the
shade, at all times due to overhanging trees, and shadows cast by my
very tall (3 story) house. It only is parked in the driveway when it
is gonna get washed and/or waxed, then it is immediately returned to
its garage. In October, the UVR (Ultra Violet Rays) of the Sun are
low or lower than from May thru September, and the temps are cooler.
Therefore I can honestly say the the car is out in the sun for 8
hours a year. I didn't put on the hood ascMcLaren decal until 1988,
two years after I bought it, so it's been on there for 15 years and
120 hours in the sun, which equates to 5 days exposure. Also, I like
the way it looks !! The rest of the paint on the car looks as it did
when brand new, I see no signs of any fading anywhere.
