Hi Ed,

I have and '88 red with black top and grey interior. The engine compartment is black. The trunk is red except for the small areas to the outside of the "frame-rails". The wheel well is red. The entire inside of the trunk lid is painted the same red as the car body, s are the door sils

Hello,

My apologies if this is a subject that has been discussed before, but
I have not been keeping up with the forum and need some help with
this. Our car is an 88 red convertible that was bought new from the
dealer by my wife, who has owned it ever since. Why is the engine
compartment black? Also, I replaced the windshield trim plastic
because it was faded and cracked, and when I removed the old piece
the metal underneath looked rough, like someone had repaired damage
from an accident. Also, the trunk lid has never fit straight. Is it
possible that the dealer sold her a mustang that was wrecked and
rebuilt into a McLaren, or did all McLarens start out as black cars
with poor fit anfd finish?
