-Oh God! I've been gone for 24 hours, and I come home to 24 hours worth of reading on the 4 sites I go to.
To start off here....
I am not, never was, and never will be a "gear head" ~ I admit openly and freely, without shame that I know very little. The info I passed on herein regarding the engines in the 84 85 86 coupes, was all verbally told to me, as I wrote like a maniac. I was told (2nd hand info) that all 3 years had the B-303 cam. Now, without getting myself into trouble, here's the meat-of-the-story. ascMcLaren did NADA NOTHING ZIP to the engines. What was done, was done "on line" at Dearborn {the Mustang/Capri} plant, off to the side, so to speak. The alterations made by FoMoCo were alledigdly made "illeagly" Okay? What ascMcLaren was trying to do, was to supply a "canvas" of sorts, with the understanding that the typical buyer of such a car was NOT going to leave it stock (4-give me) :) ~ ~ and they felf that the B- 303 would be better suited to what enthusiasts might "need". Now, don't ask me what they are, but I was also told they have "Prototype" valve guides and "prototype" valve springs, and "other enhancements" ~ It was all done very secretive. Now THAT'S the part that surprises me. If you gotta keep it a secret.....why do it?? Those of you who have driven a 5.0L Fox Bodied car of the 1983-1996 versions, AS WELL AS a 84 85 86 ascMcLaren Capri Coupe have to admit "something is DEFINATELY different" !!! We may never know what all. Regarding the 85 records being destroyed. It did seem odd, as I have 1986 thru 1990, so it always seemed odd to me that they did not have 1984/1985. Please forgive the typos, herein, I am speeding as I have 3 more sites to see, and one has over 100 postings since I left.
PS/ Remember, I was NOT at ascMcLaren and most of the info I have relates to HOW they were built, option-wise and color-wise.
