John, the ad is exactly correct! In the time frame of the mid to
late 80's American Sun Roof Corporation (ASC) formed many other sub-
companies, including Aeromotive Specialty Corp and Automotive
Specialtiy Corporation. Aeromotive was set up to do aerodynamics for
vehicle manufacturers off site, and Automotive Specialty Corporation
was to make limited production products for the "Big-3" of which they
did over 500 !! The only one to ever bear their name, were our
ascMcLarens. The marriage of ascMcLaren produced 2 offspring. Our
cars, and the Buick Regal GNX. Then came the divorce!! The Buick
was done to show the automotive world (manufactures) that asc was
able to enter the "off campus" arena of engine tweeking and design
with McLaren as a partner, to do world class upgrades for the Big-3.
The purpose of OUR cars was to show their ability to create radical
body changes/designs on existing platforms, and give an existing car
a totally new look.
Our cars were indeed done under the wing of Automotive Specialty
Corporation, a subsidiary of American Sun Roof Corporation.
