The dealer I buy my Lincolns from had a great idea to make money,
back in the eighties. They'd order a Lincoln in a non standard paint
color, and usually give it white leather interior, a real show-piece.
They'd put it on the showroom floor. Along would come a buyer
(usually - but not always, a woman) who would HAVE to have it. Once
they fell in love with it, they could not "shop" it! Nobody had it,
nobody except my dealer, that is. Funny thing, he wanted full window
sticker price, and 99% of the time.....got it! I recall a few:
a 1975 Town Coupe in Powder Blue with white landau & white leather,
and a 1979 Town Car in 1979 (Mark V only) - Rose-Pink Moondust.
Also a 1989 Town Car Sedan in a Thunderbird Yellow with white leather
and a white full length vinyl top that they had painted matching
light yellow. Interior was Dark Brown, car had Dk Brown pin stripe.
Everyone was a home run for the dealer. I can also recall Fire Red
Cougars when that color was not available, and I can recall Cougars
in Lincoln paints. Clevor, No? THEY were REALLY sad in 1992 when it
all stopped. Oh, yes, also a 1992 Mark VII in Sky Blue and another
in Fire Red and another in bright Cougar Yellow, and our 1959 T-B
Flamingo Pink with maroon leather (but we ordered that)!
