This is a subject that is currently near and dear to my heart, as
some of you know I'm (STILL) trying to pick up that 1981 Mustang
Ghia "notchback" with the T-roof option. One of the doors has some
rust along the bottom and I'm dreading the replacement process...
I'm hoping that some regular Mustang convertible doors will do the trick.
I know it doesn't apply to my situation, but I hadn't even thought about the
fact that it was two different companies modifying the doors (C&C vs asc)
and how that could affect fit. :-o
Good luck merstang,

Subject: [ASC McLaren ] Re: door swap
The doors on a 85 Mustang are the same as the Capri. The holes,
wiring, etc, should all the the same. On my car I had a Mustang
door swapped with the Capri door and there was no difference. Yes,
you need to move the glass and stuff over.
Now, the doors on an 85 Mustang CONVERTIBLE may not be exactly the
same. asc cut the window frame off the door when they did their
conversion. They may also have done a few other modifications. An
85 GT convertible would have doors modified by Cars & Concepts and I
doubt they cut the window frame off in the same way as asc. I THINK
they also added some door bumpers to keep the fit of the door tight
against the body so that flexing or warping would be minimized.
However, as I've never seen an asc vert door or a Mustang vert door,
a Mustang vert door may actually be less work if you find a good one.
Some people at www.foureyedpride.com have taken hatchback/notchback
doors and converted them to vert doors by trying to follow what CC
did. It was work but they have been successful.
As always correct me if I'm wrong.
