The figures I posted came directly from ascMcLaren literature!
Now, that said I will (once again, sorry to those who have heard it)
explain the Cam. First off, you have to turn you mind all the way
back to 1984.
ascMcLaren knew the buyer to whom the car would most appeal. They
also knew that said buyer - in most cases (Sandy Excluded) would
modify the car with add on "go-faster" goodies. To this end,
ascMcLaren requested a higher performance cam, be installed by
ascMcLaren. Ford said so doing will void the warrantee. Internal
engine work, 'ya all know.......
So, very quietly without any ado and no advertising, FoMoCo late at
night (sorta speak) installed the only one they had at the time that
would work well, the B-303. It was felt that with the upgrades the
average owner would select (hopefully from Ford MotorSport Division)
that the B-303 would be very happy.
In-House, they referred to it as a "Blank Canvas enhancement" ~
ascMcLaren then did the springs/shocks/tie rod tips up grades. It
was a cosmetic package, with a little kick in the butt, and a grin
and a nod to those who wanted to ... ahhh..... we'll say continue!
Now regarding racing those other cars. They are much lighter &
smaller and have a big advantage in weight to power ratio. Like I
said, you have to "Think 1984." We had just come out of the gas
lines and 4 & 6 cyl. was all that was out there. It was a dawn, a
new beginning. The 302 block had just come back at Ford in 1983, and
was de tuned for maxi fuel mileage. It was NOT 2000 or 2003 with hot
cars all over. Your friend at school were watching their mobiles
going around in their crib at the time. They have no clue as to
where we had been, prior. It was a case of we had to crawl, before
we could run. These cars were at the "walking" stage, surpasing
crawling, but not yet running!! They are looking at your car as
though it is/was a 2002 Camaro Z-28 SLP or a Rouch Mustang. It ain't!
