Sandy,
I think it's VERY likely that your speedo cable will
work find after a few miles of use. It may also be
possible to inject some lube from the transmission
end, rather than replacing it. I had an old Triumph
with speedo cable noise and the needle bouncing...
shooting some lube into it cured it.
