I notice that on the driver's door trim there are also three of those 'rivets' or possibly 'spappets'.
I suspect the car was set up for a 'half-tonneau' cover and those rivets or spappets that you detected across the rear tonneau applique.
I had one on my TR4A and on my TR6. Basically it is a flat sheet of vinyl, with a zipper running down the middle of it. You attach it across the back of the tonneau using those 'snappets' you detected. It also is snapped into place across the front of the dash. Then you snap a few snappets along the door trims.
I use to drive around with the driver's part of the 'half tonneau' open and the passenger part closed. This way on cool days I could drive around with the heater on and the covered passenger section would allow the heat to remain in the vehicle a little longer.
The other benefit of the half tonneau is that when I popped into a store I did not have to go and raise the roof to secure the car. Instead I would simply zip up the driver's side and completely enclose the cockpit with the tonneau.
When my 'road oinker' completes the paint job stage and I send the car off to get a new rag top put on the car I will try to get a quote for having a 'half tonneau' fabricated for my McLaren.
Anyhow, that is my best guess about what those 'snappets' are doing on the door trim and the rear tonneau. The only thing I could not see is what a 'half tonneau' would attach to on the dash board area.... Usually they use a 'male' shaped pronger, and had a 'female' receptacle in the tonneau for snapping in the front section. But this car didn't appear to have either snappets or prongers on the dash...

No doubt a very exceptional example, but we do have problems!
#1. The wheels are not original. I believe they are ARE rims.
I looked the car up, and it was originally with the Gold, BBS style
rims.
#2. Listing says that it was an original Michigan Sold Car.
#3. Curious ... What are those silver "rivets" in the rear edge of
the tonneau applique all about ??
I beat him on mileage by 1,470 miles LESS on my blue one and he
beats me by 3,734 miles on my Silver one.
