It isn't looking good for the mclaren today. The first five cars to cross the block have had a price between 3900 and 12k.

That pt cruiser has an original 400 miles and probably 20k invested into it. That price did not surprise me at all. A stock 2003 pt cruiser with that mileage would fetch 15k.

The problem is if there are no enthusiasts at the auction looking for the mclaren, the general public looks at the car and may not understand anything about it. The capri verts can have a kind of plain look to them compared to a saleens or an asc coupe - just my opinion.

Firstly, I missed it. Yesterday our channel said it aired at 4PM ~ so it actually began at 2 PM NYC time?!!? $6,500 is a sham. Did anything else sell for LESS, today? I doubt it.
People there had no clue what it was and that is reflected in the top bid.

We as owners would been better off had it not been there !
You'd have to pay more for a 2 year old Kia Sedona !

Well a no reserve auction is always a risk. If you don't have 2 people there that have the money and know what the car is to bid against each other, this can happen.

I took 1 of my 88 5speeds to a collector car auction in Baltimore Md. last Oct..It only brought $6,800 ,good thing I put a reserve on it. I'll take it to the Ford show at Carlisle Pa.in June.

I don't believe they aired the sale. I turned the show on when it started at 2 ct. and they were about twenty cars into the auction.

The car sold before the broadcast began, so there were no comments to be heard.

As for the buyer turning around the car for a quick profit, this seems unlikely. The Barrett-Jackson catalog was sent to thousands of people (I received one in the mail in conjunction with a car magazine subscription), and untold thousands more had access to information on the cars for sale on the internet. And there were tens of thousands of people present during the auction.

It is hard to imagine a car getting more exposure than it would through B-J. We need to realize that the market for these cars is very limited and hope for the best in the future.
