Please help me I'm new!!

I just bought a 89. The top won't work. The tonneau cover will
release and close just fine. But the release for the actual top
won't work. I took the motor out. I can hear the motor running, but
the gears won't spin, so the top won't release. I really don't want
to pay $300 to have the motor rebuilt. I spoke with the man from
this website: www.ascmclaren.com. He wanted that much to rebuild it.
Do I have any other options??? Thank You.
