I suppose that could happen to an injector.  Please also know that usually when they have problems is is due to the spray pattern into the engine getting messed up (due to and obstruction in the nozzle or a crack)  You can't see when this is happening.  Usually you would also have a miss and the car would run like junk.
 
I still say it's the O2 sensor.
 
Can't hurt to replace anyway.  If they are original they are mighty tired anyway.

If it was a fuel injected 5.0 then I would suspect a faulty injector....    I had one 'go bad' and the smell of gasoline vapors was quite wicked.
 
And you can usually only spot it with the engine running.  I forgot exactly what it is that 'goes' on them, but I think it was some kind of  o ring.  The fuel spurts out on to the engine block... and evaporates rapidly because of the heat of the engine and manifold... so it leaves little evidence behind except the strong vapor smell.  You need to have the engine running and a flashlight to spot it while it is occuring... in order to zero in on which one the fuel is spurting out of.
