Okay. I have been "speaking" via e-mail with Fredrico and after
reading posts here, perhaps I was in fact to hastily jumping the gun
on that car and not thinking it thru completely, as I was also
rushing to see a dumb TV show. Giving it (much) more thought, now.
My very first impression was that it had at some point substantial
water damage at some point in its life.
However, forgetting that it *IS* a convertible, yes, it may have been
caught in the rain, with it's top down - 'ya all know those sudden
downpours can deliver a real soaking.
Had the mileage said 17,000 or even 22,000 I probably would have not
blinked. However, to date, I have not seen any 68,000 mile McLaren
in as good condition, especially the carpets & leather Recaros. That
too, the combination of great interior & 68,000 miles IN A
CONVERTIBLE (top down...U/V rays, etc, etc. yet with such a great
interior made me suspect.
So, therefore on further thought, it's more than likely NEVER been
flooded.
Regarding the side plaque, I have never (in person) seen even one
wiothout the plastic encasing. I would ask Hank in Florida, as he
has many many of these new-in-box and see what he has to say. I
called him, but is in not home or didn't answer, so I left a message.
It could be just my luck that I have never seen one without, and that
there were in fact cars made without it - but I personally have never
seen one, nor any ascMcLaren advertising printed material(s) without
the plastic frame with vermillion border.

Please don't go by the wood dash in ANY Capri McLaren 'Vert. Hank
has sold probably 100's (if not more) of them, from coast to coast to
84-86 "Vert owners to replace the original ones. The 95% identical
replacements are not 100% identical to the OEM pieces. They lack the
very thin (this this______) darker horizontal lines passing thru the
pecan wood. They slightly lack the 3-dimentional look the OEMs have.
You'd have to place them side-by-side to see the difference.
