Sandy, I feel that Saleen and ASC Mclaren had different agendas.
Saleen wanted to build street legal race cars, ASC Mclaren wanted to
build niche market cars for the OE's. Their marketing strategy would
be different. Saleen felt his way in, was to build a modified
Mustangs and race it! ASC Mclaren went to the OE's and said this is
what we can do, modify cars structure and performace. ASC Mclaren
allowed the OE's to handle the marketing of the cars, Saleen took it
in his own hands, starting a race team. History shows, the public
remembers who win's races. I feel that early on in ASC Mclarens
history, the powers to be, wanted to draw work from the OE's as
performance and specialty niche company. That's how ASC and Mclaren
joined. Mclaren has a rich race history, and ASC was known for sun
roofs. The early management wanted to prove they could do any project
the OE's would throw at them, and they did. In 1984 ASC Mclaren Capri
had a sporty coupe and a cruiser convertible. Which lead to many
other projects for the company! One last thought, most of us that own
the Capri's and Mustangs modified by ASC Mclaren, Call them a
Mclaren, not a ASC. We are associating with our cars race history,
not a sunroof manufacture.

Oh Sandy, To address the Mustang Club of America, they do have a
class for the Mclaren listed at the 40th Anniversary of the Mustang
event in Nashville this year! I feel your cars could win!
